What is 'Pluh'?
Pluh is a literary agency specialised in Czech literature. The name Pluh is Czech for "Plough", and is pronounced like the Dutch word "Ploeg", which also means plough.
Our aim is to prepare the ground for authors and to make sure their work find its way to foreign publishers and readers. Pluh has the exclusive right to represent the Czech authors Petra Hůlová, Tomá Kolský, Filip Topol, Milo Urban, Anna Zonová, Patrik Ouředník, Emil Hakl, Hana Andronikova, Magdalena Platzová, Věra Nosková and Tereza Brdečková.
The authors and books represented by Pluh are the best Czech modern literature has to offer. The quality of their work is so high that we are convinced that they can own their place in foreign literatures. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, because many books of our authors have already been succesfully translated and published in many countries.
Pluh is run by the translators Edgar de Bruin and Magda Hüblová and has ties with numerous publishers abroad, as well with several literary translators. Pluh is very proud to work closely with the famous Czech author Jáchym Topol, who is officially the Honorary Consul of Pluh.
Besides being an literary agency, Pluh devotes its energy to translations of literary works in both Czech and Dutch.
